How to sign up for Instagram with a temp mail address

Does Instagram accept temp mail?
Often, yes. Instagram screens some disposable domains at signup and lets others through, and which is which changes over time. When the domain is screened you get a generic "enter a valid email address" error rather than anything explicit.
The fix is the same as everywhere: switch domain in Fade and try again. It usually works on the first or second attempt. If several domains in a row fail, Instagram is likely rate limiting the signup from your connection rather than blocking the address.
Reasonable reasons to do this
- A second or finsta account you do not want linked to your main one by a shared email address.
- A lurker account for reading a few accounts without a profile that traces back to you.
- Client or research work where you need to see a feed as an outsider does.
- Keeping the marketing out. Instagram is a Meta property and the address you sign up with becomes part of a very large advertising graph.
The last one is the underrated one. An email address is the join key between accounts. Using a different address for a second Instagram account is what actually keeps it separate.
When not to do this
The recovery trap
Instagram account recovery runs through the email address on file. If that address expired, and you are ever logged out, hit by a device change, or targeted by a takeover attempt, there is no path back to the account. This does not bite on day one. It bites six months later, which is what makes it so effective.
So do not use a disposable address for a main account, a creator or business account, anything monetised, anything connected to a Facebook Page or an ad account, or anything you would be upset to lose.
If you want the privacy but also want to keep the account, use a reserved address instead. Same separation from your real inbox, but the address is still there when the reset link arrives.
If the code never arrives
Work through it in this order:
- Wait ninety seconds. Meta's sending queue is not always instant.
- Check the address did not expire. Look at the timer in Fade and tap Extend if it is running low.
- Confirm you pasted rather than typed. Autocorrect is the quiet culprit.
- Switch domain and restart the signup. If Instagram rejected the domain, no mail was ever sent, so resending will not help.

Expect a phone number request
Instagram increasingly asks for a phone number, sometimes at signup and sometimes days later as a security check on a new account. A temporary email address does not help with that, and no email service can.
Worth deciding in advance: if you would not give this account your phone number, you may not end up with a usable account regardless of how the email step goes. That is a Meta policy decision, not a temp mail limitation.
